I think you are mixing up beta and power (1-beta). What kind of testing are you doing? You can always set alpha to whatever you want. Then for that alpha you need to find a sample size that will give you the correct beta/power. How to calculate sample size will depend on what you are trying to do.

I don't believe those are macros that are shipped with SAS. Can you post the code for these macros? We would then be able to help you out more easily.

Your variable Formula is only a character variable. This means for the first observation in your second dataset is equivalent to result="2*var1"; which is not the same as result=2*var1; Only macro variables resolve the way that you are thinking. You should take another look at what you are trying to accomplish and try to figure out a simpler solution.

Check the catx syntax CATX(separator, string-1 <, ...string-n>) 01 is being used as the separator for the other two strings.

So it looks like there was both a coincidence and SAS doesn't give the rank sign test statistic as expected. SAS subtracts Nt(Nt+1)/4 from the usual rank sign test where Nt is the number of values not equal to the hypothesized median. Does anyone know where this comes from?

Since my company still hasn't switched to 9.2 I am in the middle of writing a program that computes the Hodges-Lehmann estimate and CI. I want to check that my Walsh averages are correct and I know that you can use them to calculate the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test statistic so I am checking my derived value against proc univariates output. The problem is that my Walsh averages have ties at mu=0 and the only reference I could find for ties online said to count ties as 0.5 and values greater than 0 as 1 and sum up those values. My value for S does not match proc univariate. It seems from my data that I should count ties as 0.25. Is my code all wrong and this is a coincidence or is my reference wrong?

It looks like the problem is most likely because SAS thinks &var_median is a macro variable (as in %let var_median=Variable; ). You need a period at the end of your macro variable so that SAS will look up the correct macro variable name. It also looks like the && is redundant in your code. So try using: set tmp1(rename=&var._median=xmedian);

Ok I convinced myself that this makes sense. Within each of the three levels the point that would minimize the sums of squares would be the mean. Since there are three parameters the line can pass through all three means which would make the sums of squares as small as it could be. There are occasional small differences that could be from choice of starting value but all of the parameters from the bootstrapping match to at least 5 significant digits.

Hello all, Lets say we take some measurements at 3 equally spaced intervals of our independent variable. The same number of measurements are taken at each level. We then fit a nonlinear model with three parameters to the individual data and get one set of estimates for the parameters. We also fit the model to the mean at each level and got the same set of estimates as with the individual data. I have a feeling this seems to makes sense but I am not sure. Our client wants us to fit the model to the individual values though our reference said to use the mean. We are also performing bootstrapping with this model and it looks like using the individual values is 30-50 times slower (which if the estimates are the same then it would makes sense that our reference would say to use the mean). Any thoughts and insights would be appreciated.

In clinical trials a table usually refers to something that has to be tabulated (Summary Statistics, frequencies, etc.) and listings are printouts of raw data ( i.e. a list of all adverse events). Good luck!

It appends one data set (data=) to the end of another data set (base=). Check the documentation for a little more detail. Good luck!
