Hi, so on to my explanation. I'm trying to use proc corr (on any other correlation procedure) that I can correlated subcolumns within columns. This is a 2 PART question. Part 1 :The data I have is as below and I'm trying to transpose it so it looks like WANT.. HAVE: Metric1 Metric2 Metric3 COL1 SCol1 Group1 COL1 SCol2 Group1 COL1 SCol3 Group1 COL1 SCol4 Group1 COL2 SCol5 Group1 COL2 SCol6 Group1 COL2 SCol7 Group1 COL2 SCol8 Group1 COL1 SCol1 Group2 COL1 SCol2 Group2 COL1 SCol3 Group2 COL1 SCol4 Group2 COL2 SCol5 Group2 COL2 SCol6 Group2 COL2 SCol7 Group2 COL2 SCol8 Group2 WANT: COL1 COL2 SCol1 SCol2 SCol3 Scol4 SCol5 SCol6 SCol7 SCol8 Group1 Metric1 Group1 Metric2 Group1 Metric3 Group2 Metric1 Group2 Metric2 Group2 Metric3 Part 2 of this problem is that I would like to correlate the SCol's within each COL only. So for example only the SCol1-SCol4 would correlate, and same for SCol5-SCol8, as per their respective COL's. thanks

Let me try to explain it better: Is there better way to write this? if first.YEAR then price_GR=.; if first.Type then price_GR=.; if first.Store then price_GR=.; if first.YEAR then UN_GR=.; if first.Type then UN_GR=.; if first.Store then UN_GR=.; if first.YEAR then GDP_GR=.; if first.Type then GDP_GR=.; if first.Store then GDP_GR=.; and so on 14 times with 14 different VARS_GR.... I have 3 first. criteria to use, but I must use ot on 14 different variables... is there a easy way to do this if first.YEAR then price_GR=.; if first.Type then price_GR=.; if first.Store then price_GR=.; I have 14 different price_GR=.; (eg. UN_GR, GDP_GR, etc.) Cant have 14 series of the first.YEAR, first.Type and first.Store .. Is there a easy way to make them repedetive rather than type each out? thanks

I got it.. if Date => "01Jan2001"d and Date <= "01Nov2011"d; Shorthand that uses the equality operators but no need for AND: if "01Jan2001"d <= Date <= "01Nov2011"d; You could also use WHERE and BETWEEN (it really means between + the two dates) ... where date between "01Jan2001"d and "01Nov2011"d; this also works ... where date between "01Nov2011"d and "01Jan2001"d ;

Hi, any reason why I can use the Date (format YYMMP7.) in a range? for example I want to select records that fall within if Date => 2001.01 and Date <= 2011.11 Thanks

Hi, I have about 10 vars that are scattered in between a date period from 1990.01 to 2011.12.. But some vars start latter than others and some end sooner than others. Is there a way I can check for each var when the max and min dates are... the caveat is that in between there may be some values missing for certain vars. So something like this: Have Date Var1 Var2 Var3 Var4 1990.01 34 . 43 . 1990.02 33 . 56 68 1990.03 36 12 . 78 1990.04 37 34 . . 1990.05 32 . 24 . I would see Var1 (MIN=1990.01 and Max=1990.05), Var2 (MIN=1990.03 and MAX=1990.04), Var3 (MIN=1990.01 and MAX=1990.05), Var4 (MIN=1990.02 and Max=1990.03) Thanks

Hi Art, I just realized that if I wanted to keep all variables in the same dataset, then the oldest value is the one that belongs to the first non-missing date. All the others that are also in the dataset will have a missing value (if they don't have any data) starting from that same date.

Hi, is there a way to delete leading missing values from a dataset, with by groupings. So I have a large dataset by postal codes and car prices, and car models. certain car models werent built until certain years while others go way back.. I don't want to delete all missing since I need the missing values in between that I just don't have any prices for. Just the leading missing whenever they had happend for each model. thanks

Rick, would it also make sense to use PROC EXPAND to intrapolate the missing values (whether they're growth rates or the actual values) and then VARCLUS or PROC SIMILARITY woudl work? Since I do have a Date stamp ..

Hi, I'm trying to use Proc Varclus and I'm getting a lot of ERROR: All observations in data set WORK.PROTEIN have missing values, or the sum of weights or frequencies is nonpositive. because of the missing values in my data. This is my code proc varclus data=IN outtree=OUT centroid; var VAR01-VAR200; run; Is there a way around it or would proc varclus work fine if I make the missing to 0's. The values are averages of different economical growth rates. So for example average growth rate ot the unemployment rate in the past 5 years, and average GDP growth rate in the past 5 years, etc... Thanks
