Thanks this is extremely helpful.. The only thing different I'd add is that these 2 statements should be used collectively and joined wiht an 'AND' .. right now the results I'm gettin gis individually either a 02 or a PC if st1 eq "02" then _02=1; if st2 eq "PC" then _PC=1;

Yes, I have a large list of accounts (many duplicates) that I'd like to mark as N if they have ST1 = 02 and ST2 = PC.. but mark by their corresponding acct... I want to eventually create a rate from the overall population where USE = Y and the PC's and 02 are not to be used in the calculation.

I have a set of accts that I'd like to be marked if a criteria is met by other variables.I tried retain but can't quite get it, I wonder if index needs to beused.. I'm not a big fan of SAS dates, so anyone know of a simple and quick way to fix up mixed dates in a dataset. Have: abc Jan-01 abc Feb-01 abc 01-Mar abc 01-Apr def Jan-01 def Feb-01 def 01-Mar and so on......many many obs Want: abc 2001.01 abc 2001.02 abc 2001.03 abc 2001.04 def 2001.01 you get the idea... I need help from some proc expand experts I have data that has date and units by quarter.. I want it to expand it by month but when the total for the year (by 12 months) is added up it remains the same as the 4 quarters. have 2000.Q1 33 2000.Q2 22 2000.Q3 50 2000.Q4 10 want 2000.01 11 2000.02 10 2000.03 12 2000.04 2 2000.05 5 2000.06 15 and so on... so in the 'want' the sum for the 2000.01 & 2000.02 & 2000.03 remain 33 as per before. Thanks FriedEgg, to be honest it's a little confusing and it didn't quite work.. maybe it's something 'm doing. But basically looking to get rid of all columns that do't have any positive numbers in them.. thanks

I'm having trouble doing this, please help. I have about 20 columns (in no particular sequence, eg. COL1=MGF3654, COL2=NTD8475, etc.) and there are about 30 number of rows..with numeric data in the cells. I want to check which columns total to 1 so I can delete thos clumns, they are of no need).
