I am learning to do 2x2 crossover designs. carryover is coded with 2 levels. When period=1, carryover=X and when period=2, carryover=1. When I add carryover as a factor I am getting 0 df and SS's? Why? I would want any coding I do by hand to include computation of exact p-values. Npar1wy definitely looks easier from that viewpoint. As for Chi-square test my understanding is that it is for count data only. I have seen the following definition online: The Chi-square test of independence is a statistical hypothesis test used to determine whether two categorical or nominal variables are likely to be related or not. On thinking about it more, I like the idea of comparing percentiles using confidence intervals for the percentiles from both samples.

I want to determine that the shapes of the two distributions (A and B) are similar. Note I have two dependent samples here which I am pairing. What is the best test to do that. I want to say more than mean median mode comparisons. How about comparing quantiles? If I take the pairwise differences and check for normality that doesn't quite do it. What if incoming shapes are uniform? Checking for normality would not be correct then. An edf plot comparing differences to what ? Help! This is tricky.

Looking up riskdiff in proc freq opened up all sorts of topics. I am staying with the very simple hypothesis test of P1 = P2 where under Ho p1=p2. I wrote a macro to do what I'm looking for in the SAS output. Please see the attached file. With all the different options I settled upon the following tables statement: tables race*party/norow nocol nopercent expected chisq relrisk riskdiff(equal var = null cl=wald) alpha = .05; Am I saying that I'm assuming equal variances of the two proportions in "equal var=null"? I am avoiding the very complicated discussions seeing in the users guide and trying to do just the basic test of equal proportions at this time. We can pool or use individual variances in the denominator of the z statistic. Further I would like to clarify and be sure of the syntax for cl=wald and cl=score when using the equal var=null statement. I find I need to code what I think SAS is outputting to verify. Finally, are equations for z, confidence interval limits for z etc. listed somewhere in the proc freq users guide?
