these posts interest me because i am Base SAS certified and have been thinking of going for the advanced programmer certification. do you think SAS OnDemand would prepare me for that or is it better to purchase the elearning courses offered by SAS? Thanks.

schools are using different ranges. they are assigned at a central location to ensure there's no overlap.

i have data as seen below. Instructors have a unique email address but may have multiple IDs if they serve more than one school. The restriction on the file I'm submitting is only one ID per instructor. I want to find all cases such as hsmith@yahoo.com and give him the same ID in all obs. (It doesn't matter which one as long as he only has one.) Right now, I'm running a PROC FREQ with a TABLE statement of email*tchid/list and doing a visual inspection (not exactly an elegant solution.) email tchid jdoe@aol.com 01 sjones@hotmail.com 02 hsmith@yahoo.com 03 hsmith@yahoo.com 04

I thought this issue was resolved with 2007 and 2010. What does your DBMS= statement say in your PROC EXPORT step?

Have you tried using PROC IMPORT? something like this.... proc import table="tbl1" out=work.one dbms=access replace; database='C:\MyDatabase.mdb'; run;

for whatever reason, I saved the external csv file as xls and all columns imported. It's a much bigger file but I'll let our IT director worry about that.

max record length is 1177. can you use lrecl=xxxxx in a proc import?

well.....that's interesting. I used guessingrows and it imported 200 columns....only 14 to go. I have 11,000 rows. Maybe increasing the number to 50,000? ...hmmm

I have a csv file with 214 columns. SAS is only reading the the first 125. the log says "Number of names found is greater than number of variables found." I have imported this file numerous times using the same code I'm using today but this is the first time i've done it using version 9.3. Am I missing something? proc import datafile="G:\Departments\Research\test scores\GT\1112\GIFT.csv" out=mydata dbms=dlm replace; delimiter=','; getnames=yes; run;

I do what Linlin posted. If you're running SAS 9.3 the directory is a little different: C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASFoundation\9.3
