I'm trying to get the gist of modelling here using path analysis but I don't see syntax that allows me to include potential confounders in the model. Does this need to be built directly into the path statements?

I don't know PROC CALIS well enough to provide you with a good answer.

Maybe @CatTruxillo can help you if you insist on using PROC CALIS.

I'm just replying to tell you about other SAS/STAT procedures for Causal Inference.

Causal analysis

  • Beginning in SAS 9.4M4, SAS/STAT PROC CAUSALTRT estimates the average causal effect of a binary treatment variable on a continuous or discrete outcome. It can adjust for confounding by modeling the treatment assignment or the outcome or both.
  • Beginning in SAS® 9.4M5 (TS1M5), SAS/STAT PROC CAUSALMED estimates causal mediation effects from observational data.
  • Beginning in SAS Studio 3.6, the Causal Models task
  • Beginning in SAS Viya 2023.09, PROC CAEFFECT implements model-agnostic estimation methods to adjust for confounding variables when studying the causal effect of a treatment variable on an outcome.

What is ANOVA?

ANOVA, or Analysis Of Variance, is used to compare the averages or means of two or more populations to better understand how they differ. Watch this tutorial for more.
