Pressing the insert key does not toggle the cursor between the '|' symbol for insert mode and '_' for overtype mode.

Please please fix this.  It's such a ubiquitous feature in every editor out there it's frustrating to have to type over something to discover if you're going to insert a new character or replace an existing character.

Since SAS Studio runs in a web browser, and multiple browsers at that, I'm not sure this is actually a SAS controllable issue.

Please also note that for a largish number of years the SAS Enhanced editor toggles between | and a block, not _. So hardly a universal behavior. In fact I don't remember seeing this behavior in any of the, admittedly small number of, editors I have used in the past 30 years. I know quite a few that made no visual distinction between modes.

The argument that something used to be a bad UX is certainly not an argument that things should continue to be a bad UX.

I honestly don't care if it's an '|' or a block, or even a visual indicator in the bottom corner of the screen.  Any of these would be an improvement. Off the top of my head, editors that currently support this that I can think of include vi (and variants), notepad++, SAS EG, SAS Enhanced editor, JetBrains IDEs, Visual Studio, to name a few...

I don't know if it's feasible either, but it certainly doesn't hurt to ask... 'We can't do this' is a perfectly valid response to this request.  I'll leave that up to the devs and product managers to figure out...

@RobP  - I support this. What version did you test? I tried 3.7 and it has the behaviour you describe both in IE and Chrome. Seems to be the same across browsers.
