Hi All,

We have a client who generates over 300 reports using SAS Stored process,  and we are in the process of re-engineering the solution by proposing SAS OLAP cube.

Data Masking is one of the reason they outlined, why they are using SAS STP as they were been told that this functionality is not supported with the OLAP cube.  In their current approach, the data masking is handled at the DB level and nothing is done  at the SAS STP

We have yet to receive the access to their environment, but we however believe that if we perform a drill down operation,  since its going to be a real time query,  the behavior of data masking will still apply and the end users will be able to see masked data only.

Would be highly appreciated if any one can guide us to an appropriate documentation or validate if our assumption is appropriate.

Thanks in advance.

Ronny

And your assumption is...that masking applies during drill down (not drill through)? That would the customer now about, data masking would apply to every level where the values to basked can be seen.

Also, please define what is the requirement for the masking, it can mean different things...

The only SAS product (as far as I know) that supports data masking out of the box is Data Federation Server.

But I guess that you could apply masking using MDX, haven't tested it.

Hi,

The operation would be when we try to view the detail level data ,  we are hoping that the data in the column would be masked (replaced) by some special characters.

as mentioned earlier, currently the underlying DB is performing the masking, and nothing is done in the SAS program, hence the assumption that the same operation would hold true when we try to view the detailed data.

Thanks

Ok, so it's drill through we're talking about. Or are you planing to go ROLAP?

I see no problem to let the current DB continues to do the data masking, as long that service is incorporated in views (the same that the Stored Process is calling).
