Let's say something is updated in the web. Can SAS be hooked up so that it would automatically compute values?

I'll be interested in seeing what others have to contribute toward answering your question.  You can easily write code that can tap everything added to specific sites, if the sites allow it, but I'm not aware of any way to trap added web content in general.
