Want a really quick and easy way to set up a server connection for someone using the SAS Mobile BI app?

E-mail a report to them.

Here's how it works:

  1. You e-mail a report to someone. The e-mail contains a link to the report.
  2. The recipient clicks the link in the e-mail. When the recipient is on a mobile device and has the SAS Mobile BI app installed, the link opens the app.
  3. If the recipient does not have the server connection created, the app asks if it should add the server connection to the Connections list.
  4. Tap Yes.
  5. If the server supports Guest Mode, the app asks the recipient if they want to log on as a guest. If the recipient taps No, the app requests the user's username and password. If the recipient taps Yes, the app goes to the next step.
Either way, the server connection is now created and saved in the app.
  6. The app asks if the recipient wants to open the report. Tap Yes. The app subscribes to the report and downloads it.
  7. The recipient taps the report to view it.

The app seamlessly sets up the connection. The only thing the recipient needs to know is their username and password. Unless it's a Guest connection server. A Guest connection doesn't require a username and password.

You can email a report from SAS Visual Analytics and from SAS Mobile BI.

In SAS Mobile BI for iPad and iPhone:

  1. Open a report. Tap the Share menu (a square with an up arrow).
  2. Tap Mail. A window appears that contains a screen capture of the report and a link to the report.
  3. Tap the To field and enter the email address for the recipient.
  4. Tap Send.

In SAS Mobile BI for Android:

  1. Open a report. Depending on your device, tap the Overflow Menu button (three vertical dots) or open the Overflow menu.
  2. Tap Share Report.
  3. If your device has multiple apps for sharing, an app selection window opens. Tap the app that you want to use.
A window appears that contains a screen capture of the report and a link to the report.
  4. Tap the To field and enter the email address for the recipient.
  5. Tap Send.

In SAS Visual Analytics Viewer (7.3):

  1. Click the Options menu (three vertical dots) and select E-mail.
  2. An e-mail opens with the body pre-filled with the report title and link.
  3. Enter the email address of the recipient and click Send.

In SAS Visual Analytics Designer (7.3):

  1. Click File > E-mail.
  2. An e-mail opens with the body pre-filled with the report title and link.
  3. Enter the email address of the recipient and click Send.

Hi Karen, this way to send  a new connection seems awesome. I tried it as soon as I read it, but when I tap on the report link, the link opens safari, not the app.

Any idea about it?

thanks a lot

Hi Grazia,

It sounds like you're using an Apple device. Please let me know the following information:

  • the type of device
  • the iOS version
  • the app version that you are using

Thanks!

Hi Grazia,

We have no known bugs in this feature. The team would like you to upgrade to iOS 11 and SAS Mobile BI 8.21.

The expected behavior is that the link will open in Safari, but then redirect and open the SAS Mobile BI app.

The team also asks whether the link was generated by SAS Visual Analytics.
