SMC backups relate to backing up and restoring SAS metadata not SAS VA data.

SAS VA data can be backed up using standard server backup tools, like Comvault. Talk to your IT server administrators to find out what backups they do on your VA servers. It is best practice to perform daily server backups of all permanent disk storage. You should also test that a restore can be successfully done from backups.
