Create a Filter for top x values - like schoolkids according to their grades

Hi, 

How can I create a filter for top x of a value. 

The user would like to be able to choose what x should be (whether it should be the top 5 or the top 20 schoolkids according to grades for example).

I tried to look into advanced filter, but how can you create a page control where the user chooses the value based on top (x) / max (x) value of (y) .
