The Amazing Race: Statistics shown in SAS Visual Analytics

The popular reality television show, The Amazing Race, has been around for a while with season 32 to air in the 2019-2020 season. Typically eleven teams of two race around the world to win the grand prize of US$1 million. I used SAS Visual Analytics to analyze the historic race data to see whether there are any patterns in teams structure, relationships and whether some perform better than others.

The interactive version of the report lets you select the season in the top left button bar which then reflects race route and team statistics. You'll see that teams have covered a wide variety of countries. The producers' delayed release of a season after filming is interesting, as well as the reduction of only filming one season per year in recent years. The best-ever performing team was Eric & Jeremy in Season 9 with the best average position by leg - however they didn't win the grand price in the final leg (came in a close 2nd).

Update 11/4/19:

@ChrisNZ also suggested a more interactive preview of the infographic by recording a screen-cast. This is just a quick walk-thru of some of the report visuals and related interactivity with ability to explore & compare different season statistics.

Enjoy!

I don't think a screenshot can convey the apparent richness of the report you have created. It just teases us. How about a video showing a few findings/highlights as you navigate?

Thanks @ChrisNZ - sorry for the delay in responding. I recorded a short video showing some of the report interactivity. Hopefully in future we can provide a live-version of the report so users can play around as well. Keep in mind the idea of the gallery is really to showcase examples of Visual Analytics reports to inspire others or just to spark the one or other idea for your own design projects. Showing what's possible. Cheers, Falko

Very cool design! Thanks @FalkoSchulz
