In SAS Studio, after running a Data step, the resulting dataset is displayed under the OUTPUT DATA tab. In the default setting of showing column names instead of labels, character variable columns are the width of the variable (great!). Numeric variable columns are super wide (not great). This means I always have to scroll horizontally to see more than a few columns at a time.
Can I make these columns output to a narrower width? Thanks!
I don't think so. It does adjust based on the FORMAT attached to the variable. So if you format the numbers to be displayed with fewer characters then the columns might take less space.
At least there does seem to be an impact when running this code.
data class1;
set sashelp.class;
run;
data class2;
set sashelp.class;
format age 3. height weight 5.1 ;
run;
Otherwise just make a REPORT that displays the data in the way you want instead of trying to use SAS/Studio to look at the actual dataset.
