Hi All,

I know nothing of programming and working with data like this. The US Census Bureau website has .xlsx tables that relate family income to voter turnout and reasons for not voting, using CPS data from Nov 2018, and I guess preceding months, plus their Voting and Registration Supplement. There are what looks like .dat purely numerical fixed width documents of this data on the Census website, and I guess there may be various renditions of the same info on cps.ipums.org. How may this information be viewed in a similar format to the .xlsx tables for a single state? Is this practical on SAS Studio? Thank You 🙂

The US Census website has many files on the same topics.

It really helps to give us a specific link to the files you are interested in as the search function on that site is marginal at best.

Often when the Census site has text, such as fixed column, data there will usually be one or more programs or documents on how to bring such data into some statistics packages such as SAS or SPSS and sometimes even example analysis programs.

Unfortunately without a specific example it is hard to provide much other than 1) read the data into SAS and 2) select the records of interest. You could likely write an XLSX file of the data you want.

I'd like this format of these two tables refined to the data of one
state, instead of regional and national figures:
1) https://www2.census.gov/programs-surveys/cps/tables/p20/583/table07.xlsx
2)https://www2.census.gov/programs-surveys/cps/tables/p20/583/table10.xlsx

It looks like this information is derived from the Nov 2018 GNU gzip
file found by the link, "Basic Montlhy CPS" here:
https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/cps/data/datasets.html

and the GNU gzip file for 2018 here:
https://www.census.gov/data/datasets/time-series/demo/cps/cps-supp_cps-repwgt/cps-voting.html

It would appear my Mac is incompatible with the software offered on
census.gov. And when it comes to state specific info from the Voting
and Registration Supplement, the Online Data Analyzation Tools on
census.gov and IPUMS doesn't go there.

I thought SAS Studio could help me analyze this data, from the .dat
info and not the premade .xlsx info. How may this be true if it is?

Thank You:)
