Just try it and see what it returns.

data _null_;
  dt=today();
  put 'monyy5: ' dt monyy5.;
  put 'monyy6: ' dt monyy6.;
  put 'monyy7: ' dt monyy7.;
run;

Why don't yo try?

data T;
  d=put(1,monyy5.);
  e=put(1,monyy6.);
  f=put(1,monyy7.);
run;

You'll see that the length of 6 yields the same string as a length of 5 but preceded by a space.
