id event_beg_date event1_end  event2_end event3_end
1    01/01/2005  04/05/2005  03/10/2005  06/01/2005

I have the above code. I want to calculate the number of days between the event_beg_Date and the first event that happen across the three event dates.

So for example above, the code should retain the number of days between 01/01/2005 and 03/10/2005

Dates are numeric so you can use the MIN() function to find the earliest date.

duration = min(event1_end, event2_end, event3_end) - event_beg_date;
