Have you tried here:

https://www.sas.com/en_us/learn.html

I don't know, but that would seem to be the most likely place to find help.

Hi:
What Practice Tests are you asking about? If you are talking about the Base Programmer Practice Exam or the Advanced Programmer Practice Exam, there are not any datasets that go with those exams. The Practice Exams are multiple choice and you have to answer the questions by understanding how the syntax works. You currently do not have any data in the graded exams at Pearson VUE, so the Practice Exams are meant to test your knowledge.

If you are using the Prep Guide for either exam, then look in Chapter 1 -- there are instructions in each Prep Guide about how to make the data to practice in the Prep Guide.

If you are taking an e-learning class (one of our e-learning classes) look for a section at the beginning of the course that says "Course Overview and Data Setup" or sometimes just "Course Overview" -- typically, the instructions for making the data for the course are inside that section.

Hi Cynthia,

Let me rephrase my question in a better way giving an example :

"Level 1 Practice: Exploring Data with Procedures The pg1.np_summary table contains public use statistics from the National Park Service. Use the PRINT, MEANS, UNIVARIATE, and FREQ procedures to explore the data for possible inconsistencies. Reminder: If you restarted your SAS session, you must recreate the PG1 library so you can access your practice files. In SAS Studio, open and submit the libname.sas program in the EPG194 folder. In Enterprise Guide, run the Autoexec process flow. 1. Open p103p01.sas from the practices folder. Complete the PROC PRINT statement to list the first 20 observations in pg1.np_summary. Add a VAR statement to include only the following variables: Reg, Type, ParkName, DayVisits, TentCampers, and RVCampers. Highlight the step and run the selected code"

I am going through the e-learning program of SAS and I am a beginner in this , as given above I am not able to find pg1.np file to work and see the data.

What I have in my SAS Studio is the SAShelp. SASUser and WEBWORK. I am not  able to find the libraries.

Can you please help me either retrieve the files or how can make those libraries accessible to my studio.

Thanks again

Hi,

Not sure what practice tests your talking about. Check the link below for some practice datasets for Base programming and Advance programming certification Guide.

Hi Surya,

Thanks for your reply.

Please help me more with that, let me clear myself on the question I asked ,

Highlight the step and run the selected code "

As given above as an example, I am not able to find the Libraries only. I am practicing on the university edition of SAS. I don't have the data with me from where I can practice.

It has Sas.help, SASuser and webwork and no other files like they have provided in SAS practice.

If you can please help me understand why is happening and how and what it is as you can see am quite confused.

Thanks

Hi:

That example is from the Programming 1 course. We have explicit directions for how to make the data for Programming 1 for each method of using SAS: SAS University Edition in a Virtual Machine; SAS OnDemand for Academics; SAS Enterprise Guide in a local or remote installation, SAS Display Manager in a local installation; SAS Studio in a local installation.

I know that there is a section in the Programming 1 e-learning class that discusses how to make the data for Programming 1. Please look in your Table of Contents as shown below:

required_setup.png

When you go into this REQUIRED section, you see the following choices of how you're using SAS:

pick_your_method.png

Then you must follow ALL the instructions inside one of these choices.

YouTube videos are posted here (in the communities): https://communities.sas.com/t5/SAS-Communities-Library/How-to-access-data-for-SAS-Programming-1-cour... for how to follow the instructions for EACH of these 5 methods.

This setup is REQUIRED. When you follow the instructions, you will run a program that creates the NP_SUMMARY and other files you need to practice the Programming 1 class.

Hope this clarifies that all of our e-learning courses have this type of Course Overview and Data Setup section that each student has to complete.

Hi Cynthia ,

Thanks, you understood me completely apart from my confusing statements.

Yes , I missed this part while installing the SAS University Edition Software, but I am having this issue of uploading the file into my Project Tree as it is showing the error of exceeding size of 10 Mb.

Can you direct me like how should I change this size or is there any other way to perform this.

It would be great if you could help me with that  because being a beginner , I really need to work on the practice sessions.

Thanks

Aakarshan

Hi:
If you are using SAS University Edition, you should not need to "upload" anything. SAS University Edition uses your Shared Folder location, which is on YOUR local drive. So I don't understand what you mean when you say that you are  "uploading the file into your Project Tree".

All you should need to do is download the zip archive for the SAS University Edition instructions and make the EPG194 folder in your Shared Folder location.

You do NOT upload the entire zip file into your Project Tree. You follow the instructions to unzip the contents and put them into the right location in SAS University Edition.

Please note that we have DIFFERENT instructions if you are using SAS Enterprise Guide. But again, there's nothing to upload to the Project Tree in EG, there is a zip file and a program to run.

Please watch these videos specifically, look at the instructions for your particular method of using SAS: https://communities.sas.com/t5/SAS-Communities-Library/How-to-access-data-for-SAS-Programming-1-cour.... We also have a Community Forum specifically for the Programming 1 and Programming 2 classes, which is here: https://communities.sas.com/t5/Programming-1-and-2/bd-p/course_discussions .

I think that somehow, you're not following the correct set of instructions for your method of using SAS.

Hi Cynthia,

Yes, you are correct.

I missed the few instructions in a hassle.
Will try and come back to you if any doubts.

I hope I don't have to come back with this issue at least because you
explained it nicely and I think I can get it done.

Will come back to you when I will get it done.

Thanks a lot.
Really appreciate.

Hi:

Really, you should watch the video that corresponds to how you're using SAS. So first, you have to understand HOW you're using SAS.

1) Do you start Virtual Box or VMWare software BEFORE you can log into SAS Studio? If so, this means you are using SAS University Edition. The absolutely critical thing in using SAS University Edition, that is UNRELATED to the course, is making sure that you set up your shared folder location correctly. The setup instructions will NOT work if you don't have shared folders set up correctly.

2) Do you log onto the SAS Control Center to start SAS Studio on the SAS OnDemand Cloud server? If so, this means you are using SAS OnDemand for Academics and we have specific instructions for you. The critical thing for these instructions is uploading the unzipped files to the OnDemand server. This is the ONLY time you have to do an upload, if you are using SAS OnDemand for Academics with SAS Studio.

3 & 4) Are you using SAS in a local installation? Do you start SAS directly from a Windows Start menu? If you are using SAS in local mode (you find SAS on the Start menu), then you might be using a local copy of SAS Studio (#3 method) or you might be using our original Windows interface, called Display Manager (#4 method). We have separate instructions for each of these methods of using SAS. In both of these methods, you are going to read from and write to folders on your C: drive, usually, the folder where you unzip the data.

5) Are you using SAS Enterprise Guide to talk to a local or server copy of SAS? If so, then we have explicit instructions for SAS Enterprise Guide folks, where we write all the data to your WORK location (because EG folks frequently are running in an environment where they can't read from or write to their C: drive)

In my previous mail, I posted a link to the videos for each of these methods. You don't have to watch all 5 videos. Just watch the one video that corresponds to how YOU are using SAS. From the notes above, you should be able to figure out which video you should follow and this will point you to the instructions you need to follow.

If you ARE using SAS University Edition, then you must move the unzipped files to your shared folder location. If you don't know what your shared folder location is, then you probably need to go back to the SAS University Edition setup instructions and revisit the section on the instructions (the last step) that defines HOW you set up shared folders.

Basically, on my installation, on my C: drive, I have a Windows folder in this location:

c:\SASUniversityEdition\myfolders

and THIS is my shared folder location. But if I went into SAS Studio (after starting VirtualBox or VMWare Player) if I right-click on myfolders in the Files and Folders pane, I would see that the SAS Studio name for this Windows location is: /folders/myfolders.

If you are using SAS University Edition and you have a good install and you can see /myfolders in your Files and Folders pane, like this:

see_myfolders.png

Then you should be able to just move the unzipped files under this location. For example, here is my EPG194 folder in MY Windows Explorer shared folder location:

windows_shared_folder_view.png

And then, also shown in my SAS Studio window:

epg194_folder.png

Notice how the name is NOT a Windows path name when it is viewed in SAS Studio. So you need to use the path you see INSIDE SAS Studio in all your code. If you can open SAS Studio and you can see MyFolders in the Server Files and Folders pane, then your SAS University Edition installation is probably OK and you've defined your shared folders correctly.

Please watch the SAS University Edition video and then follow ALL the directions that are inside the course.

Hope this helps,

Cynthia
