Hello, We are starting to use the metadata engine in our libname statements in SAS 9.4, but are preparing to move to VIYA 202x.x I'm wondering if the meta engine is still supported in the new VIYA releases or if we should not bother and stay with the traditional base, and different db engines. Is there a list of supported engines for viya?
Thanks
Jay
Regarding your question about supported database engines and connectors, you can find the current list in the SAS documentation. It's a big list and most likely covers what you're using today for databases, etc.
The SAS Metadata Server from SAS V9 (and thus the META engine) isn't really a "thing" in SAS Viya. If using CAS libraries (which you would for all of those CAS-enabled procedures and CAS actions, as well as for SAS Visual Analytics reports, SAS Visual Data Science, etc.), the authorization model is managed using SAS Viya Content folders. You can find more information in the SAS Viya Administration guide. There are also a ton of articles here on the community about different aspects of managing content and data access in SAS Viya.
Of course Base SAS libraries are still supported too when dealing with data in the file system. To use that data in a CAS-enabled procedure you would run a step to lift that data into CAS to make it available there.
Yes, there is no metadata repository in Viya so the META engine is not be available.
