do I need to use modify to remove the password first, or there is a way I can be prompted to input the password when running the sas import code?

The operating system you operate under, the method you intend to use to import (wizard, proc import, data step code) and location, on your computer, network, website, of the file may affect your options.

If this was a one time thing I would be tempted to open the file and save locally  without the password if that is a valid option.

I'm really confused how this has been deemed as solved.

This literally solves nothing at all. It's like saying "where do I find the Start Menu on my PC" and your answer is "Depends on your OS".

Not solved, don't mark them solved if they aren't
