What is the purpose of the @@? how is it different from @?

A single @ holds an input record for the execution of the next input statement within the same iteration of the step.

 

Two @s holds the input record for the execution of the next input statement across iterations of the data step.

 

I took that almost directly from the SAS Data Step Documentation on the INPUT Statement.
