Hello there,

I have a variable "rdq" which originally is 4 digits, I use the following code to add two zeros in front to make it become 6 digits,

data Rdq_1;
set Rdq;
format GVKEY z6.;
drop CIK;
run;

now I want to convert the 6 digits "rdq" from numeric to character, how can I do it?

Thanks in advance.

Numeric to character is create a new variable using Put function.

data Rdq_1;
   set Rdq;
   format GVKEY z6.;
   GVKEY_char = put(gvkey, z6.);
   drop CIK;
run;
