I work for a higher-ed institution, so I figured I'd post it here (along with being the first person to post a new thread!)

I've read SAS's article on Windows Vista support (http://support.sas.com/techsup/pcn/vista.html) and realize that Windows Vista 64 (insert version here) is not supported. What I want to know is if anyone has had the opportunity to get SAS software installed in a Vista 64 environment.

Currently at our institution, we are purchasing workstations with 4GB of memory, which of course, only about 3GB can be used on a 32 bit operating system (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605). We are even purchasing certain workstations with 8GB of memory. Since our machines can't utilize their entire amount of memory on a 32 bit operating system, we're forced to go to a 64 bit operating system, either XP 64 or Vista 64, with Vista 64 being the prime candidate because XP is soon to be end-of-life (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecycle/default.mspx).

I've discovered the hard way that I am unable to install my SAS software, and am actually somewhat disappointed that SAS software isn't supported on the latest hardware/software configurations. Is there a timeline as to when SAS software will be supported on Vista 64? Are there even plans to port current SAS software to Vista 64? Does anyone else seem to come across the same issues as I?

Most importantly, I'm interested in knowing if anyone has been successful in installing SAS software on a Vista 64 machine, and, if so, what steps were taken to do so? Otherwise, I'll be running a virtual machine inside my workstation with XP 32 installed, just so I can do my day to day tasks, which is obviously not an optimal situation.

Thanks to all!

Moved from Higher Education forum. I moved this thread to a more generic forum.I realize that it isn't a perfect fit in this forum either, but here, a wider audience can benefit from the response.

I don't know about Vista 64, but works with Vista 32.
