Some character data was lost during transcoding in the dataset

I got this problem while uploading data on linux environment from windows environment.

"Some character data was lost during transcoding in the dataset DB.Xyz   Either the data contains characters
that are not representable in the new encoding or truncation occurred during transcoding."

what should I do to overcome this problem???
