We're running SAS-code that exports data to CSV-files. They are transferred to a customer via SFTP on a daily basis.

The SAS-code writes data in the ANSI character set (using PROC EXPORT).The customer uses ISO8859.

The customer is angry that we're using ANSI and demands that we change it. Some string values that are within the max variable length on our side, exceeds the max variable length on the customer's side because special characters (like 'æ') take up two spaces in their system.

What would you suggest in this situation? Is the customer right, and can SAS-code be easily adjusted to write data in the ISO8859 character set?
