Hi, I am looking for a SAS programmer job. I am in Philadelphia and have 15+ experience in SAS, including SAS statistical procedures. I don't have clinical trials experience, but am open to such jobs too. I am very strong in Data step and Procs. Any advice or guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks!

SAS is widely used in the finance, banking, insurance and public sector industries also. The main reason companies are using more open-source software is because that's what new recruits know from universities where the cheapest options seem to get most traction.

In my experience "SAS programmer" jobs are no longer advertised as such. More likely they will be described as data analyst or data modeller or data scientist with SAS, R, Python, SQL etc skills.
It's also possible that jobs involving SAS could be described in industry terms, so if you have skills in a particular industry, they can be at least as important as your SAS skills. Examples of this could be clinical trials analyst, financial modeler, banking data analyst and so on.
So I'd suggest you stop thinking about yourself as a SAS programmer, and start thinking about how to describe yourself based on the type of work you do and the industries you have experience in.

Hi SASkiwi,
You are right, and I do hightlight my industry/domain experience. However, I am seeing that SAS as an analytical tool is losing traction in many industries other than biostatistics and clinical trials. I am too old a dog to learn new tricks, but I have a feeling I may need to bite the bullet and start learning Python, databricks, PowerBI etc. Thanks for your tip, though. Much appreciated!
