Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me the limits on dataset sizes (number of observations, number of variables) under SAS Version 9.

I found a note on the SAS support forum:-
http://support.sas.com/techsup/unotes/V6/B/B685.html

Which gives exactly the info I wanted for version 6, but I couldn't find a similar note for version 8 or version 9 of SAS (whatever happened to Version 7?). I'd guess that it's perhaps not changed, but it would be nice to know.

Also, according to that note, a dataset up to 2.1 BILLION GB is supported under NT... I wonder how this was tested... 🙂

Is this the information you're looking for?

SAS 7 was an experimental release, so it (and it's documentation) were removed after SAS 8 became production (it really was the first iteration of the new structure for SAS 8 and beyond). The only thing that I routinely see remaining from SAS 7 is the SAS dataset structure; in the extension .SAS7BDAT, the "7" refers to SAS 7.
