Does specifying a GENMAX= option increase runtime?

For context, I want to have a backup file available in case a team member overwrites an important file. I won't actually create the backup data set unless necessary.

It will have an objective effect as SAS manages the generations and renames files, but I found it negligible and couldn't notice it.

Please keep us posted if you find otherwise.
