Hello,

I'm trying to create a variable from two others which should be missing if both are missing, '1' if both are '1' and '0' otherwise. I know how to do this in longhand (see below), but is there a shorter way?

data two; set one;

if var1 = . and var2 = . then new_var = .;

else if var1 = 1 and var2 = 1 then new_var = 1;

else new_var = 0;

run;

Thank you. This works.

Do you understand the calculations happening there? You may want to look into IFN() as well, especially for dealing with a single variable, which has a fourth(or 5th) parameter to deal with MISSING.

I tried that, but it didn't work.
