Also keep in mind that all that PROC CONTENTS needs to do is reading the first page of the dataset, and write a result dataset which will also rarely be larger than a single page (unless you erroneously try to compress it).

So anything beyond 0.1 seconds CPU and real time points to an issue with your setup or congestion on the server, both of which can't be solved by parallelisation.
