Performance of sort nodupkey vs sql select distinct

Dear community,

I'm sure I've read posts / articles about this before but don't seem to be able to retrieve them right now ... Is there any systematic performance difference between PROC SORT NODUPKEY and PROC SQL SELECT DISTINCT when one needs to retrieve a list of unique values?
