Pass Macro variable in dataset name (DATA STEP)

I am trying the following:

%let year ='2019';
%put &year;

data cars_&year.;
set sashelp.cars;
run;

I have tried &&year.  and &year.  

I would like my new dataset to be cars_2019

Removed the '      '    around 2019.

That fixed it.

As a general rule, you should not put quotes or double quotes around the value of a macro variable. There are some rare exceptions, but as you see, this is not one of them.
