Name match algorithm

Hi,
I have to compare the physician's names from two sources and and determine if they match or not.
One source, patient data has physician's listed differently from physician's listed in vendor's list.
Say for example
GARRY L AUGUST is listed in patient data
GARRY AUGUST is listed in vendor's list.
When performing a join they dont match.

Hi:
Look at the functions listed in these previous forum postings and in these papers. They should point you in the right direction. In addition, if you have the DataFlux software, as part of DI Studio, you may be able to clean up the data using the DataFlux routines.
