Suppose the following:

Apples        30
Peaches       15
Apples        27
Peaches       12
Apples        19

We want to get the subtotals for the items above.

How best to do that?

(p.s. -- in the meantime I'll be trying to find the solution.  my hunch is to use Proc Freq.  but not sure....)

proc summary is probably the best way to sum by group.
