Loading data into a password protected Excel

Need some ideas in loading the data into an Excel and provide a password to the same. Please let me know if there is a way to attain this without using a WinZip facility. I would like to have this for a '.xls' output and not '.xlsx' files. However, any information regarding this would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks
