Hello Everyone,
I have a file with .tar.gz extension. For zip files I can use the filename <fileref> ZIP 'file_name', is there a similar way to access and read .tar.gz file?

No.
Use the tar command to extract files from an tar archive. It should have an option that will let it know that it needs to use GUNZIP first to remove the GZIP compression that the .gz extension indicates.
