Use DATALINES4 (aka CARDS4) statement instead. That requires a line with four semicolons to signal the end of the data.

data temp;
input name$ details $ dlm='|';
datalines4;
name1|sex1;dob1
name2|sex2;dob2
name3|sex3;dob3
.
.
.
so,on
;;;;
