How secure is data moving between Windows and Unix

I've just been asked how secure is data moving between Windows and Unix. For example, a data step reads a dataset stired on the PC and the destination is a permanent dataset on the Unix box. Would it be possible to intercept the data as it moves between the two platforms?

e.g.

/* my Unix library */

libname myunix '/unixbox/projects/live_data' server=xyzsrv1;

/* Read some pc data and store it in Unixland */

data myunix.cars;

  set sashelp.cars;

  where make="BMW";

run;

How secure is the data and if the answer is not very, what can we do to make it more so?

Read the security doc applicable to SAS/CONNECT or SAS/SHARE.

It depends on your setup. When using SAS Studio (which is a webapp), you depend on the security of the HTML connection. If you use https, you're secure.

With Enterprise Guide, you depend on the definition of the workspace server connection. The encryption level may be set to none, credentials only, or everything.
