Finding length

In a detaset If I want to find out length of particular column in distinct and in descending order then how I will do this by using macro queries?
Please help me out.

I'm not sure why you want it in a macro but if an SQL will do.

proc sql;
select distinct length() as varlong from
order by varlong descending;
quit;
