Is is possible to have a single row that spans multiple columns as a summary (or a header) and then detailed rows below it in proc report?

You can specify the spanned heeader when defining your columns as in the example below.

 

proc report data=sashelp.class nowd 
   style(header)=[background=white]; 
   col ( sex) 
       ('spanned header' age weight height); 
run;
