Hi,

I have a panel dataset like below.

data have;
input firmID $	Year	;
datalines;
A	1995
A	1996
A	1997
A	1998
B	1997
B	1998
B	1999
B   2000
;
run;

I would like to delete the first two years for each firm. The expected output is below.

data have;
input firmID $	Year;
datalines;
A	1997
A	1998
B	1999
B   2000
;
run;

What program do I need to use? Thanks!!

Use a counter with by-group processing, and a subsetting if:

data want;
set have;
by firmid;
if first.firmid
then counter = 1;
else counter + 1;
if counter > 2;
drop counter;
run;
