DN: Andy's example didn't include either a cards or datalines statement at the end.  However, with your code, I too get the same results as you.  And, indeed, the filename assigned makes me feel young again!

Sanjeev.K,

Congratulations, you have opened the floodgates of nostalgia.

"Back in the day", SAS only ran on mainframes and the only way to get a SAS program into the computer was to use punch cards (also known as Hollerith cards after the inventor, see Punched card - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ).  Therefore, CARDS; was the natural term for getting data to the program that was inline with the program.

: How much nostalgia can you take in one day?  I remember, in 1975, getting the tool that I thought was the greatest replacement for punch cards ever!  Take a look at: http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://forum.allaboutcircuits.com/cache.php%3Furl%3Dhttp://scm-l3...

and that was 110 baud .. without a K after the number.  However, it did let one run programs from their desk and without the risk of spilling a box of cards.

Oh, cripes! I remember using both the modems AND phones with dials. A couple of years ago I saw one of those phones for sale at an antique store!?!

Somebody just shoot me now!

Anybody else remember buying this issue at the newsstand?

I rember reading that issue. I didn't buy a copy because my dad subscribed to the magazine.

First modem I worked with was 300 baud and had to write own communication program between a Techtronics micro and an HP2000.

Look for this link you will be get the clarification of datalines VS csrds Vs lines.

in Short

lines , cards are initially used in SAS .because the SAS algoes read length, created in form to reading long data lines  in CARDIMAGE System Option  and that time they use cards and lines ,

look this for datalines ....

http://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/lrdict/64316/HTML/default/viewer.htm#a000188182.htm

and for cards ..........

http://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/lrdict/64316/HTML/default/viewer.htm#a000289371.htm

and then they enhance cards in datalines........
