Hi:

Not exactly sure what you mean by "Clinical SAS." If you mean how SAS is used in Clinical Trials Programming for submission of drug trials to the FDA or other regulatory body, then our Clinical Trials Programmer certification exam focuses on 2 main areas: SAS skills and domain expertise.

To earn the Clinical Trials Programmer credential exam, you must either pass the full Clinical Trials Programmer exam or the Accelerated exam in order to ean the Clinical Trials Programmer credential (answer to your #4 question)

For US students, we recommend that students take the training classes that prepare you for the SAS content on the exam. Those classes are: Programming 1, Programming 2, Macro Language 1, Report Writing and Statistics 1. Then, to study the domain expertise topics, you would use the books listed on the certification web site.

Here's the Content Guide that shows what topics are covered on the Accelerated exam https://www.sas.com/content/dam/SAS/en_us/doc/other1/certification/exam-content/clinical-trials-acce... . For the Base Programmer certification, you would have studied Programming 1 and Programming 2. That means the other classes to study for the SAS skills covered on the exam are the remaining 3 classes: Macro Language 1, Report Writing 1 and Statistics 1.

Here are the web sites for all of the 5 classes so you can read the detailed information about each class:

Programming 1: https://support.sas.com/edu/schedules.html?ctry=ca&crs=PROG1  (free as self-paced e-learning)

Programming 2: https://support.sas.com/edu/schedules.html?ctry=ca&crs=PROG2

Macro Language 1: https://support.sas.com/edu/schedules.html?ctry=ca&crs=MAC1

Report Writing 1: https://support.sas.com/edu/schedules.html?ctry=ca&crs=RPT1

Statistics 1: https://support.sas.com/edu/schedules.html?ctry=ca&crs=STAT1  (free as self-paced e-learning)

The web site for the Accelerated exam, as shown here: https://www.sas.com/en_ca/certification/credentials/foundation-tools/clinical-trials-programmer/clin...  .

Most of the clinical domain content on the exam is related to the process of submitting Clinical Trial data to regulating agencies. The domain expertise that is covered on the exam comes from the books and the CDISC standards for Clinical Trials approval submission. We do not have a practice exam or a Prep Guide for the Clinical Trials Programmer exam.

The certification web site shows the books that we recommend. Most of the books are not available through the SAS Bookstore. However, I have provided the Amazon or Google Books links below:

--SAS Programming in the Pharmaceutical Industry

Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/SAS-Programming-Pharmaceutical-Industry-Second-ebook/dp/B00JBEPR4K

--Clinical Trials: A Practical Guide to Design, Analysis, and Reporting

Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Clinical-Trials-Practical-Analysis-Reporting/dp/1901346722/

--Introducing the CDISC Standards: New Efficiencies for Medical Research

Google books - https://books.google.com/books/about/Introducing_the_CDISC_Standards.html?id=RcsatwAACAAJ  (not on Amazon)

--Validating Clinical Trial Data Reporting with SAS

Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Validating-Clinical-Trial-Reporting-Press/dp/1599941287

--Implementing CDISC Using SAS: An End-to-End Guide

Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Implementing-CDISC-Using-End-End-ebook/dp/B07SC4MFM4

You will need to study the books listed above to gain the domain expertise knowledge. I understand that CDISC.ORG offers training on the SDTM and ADaM standards. My students have also shared with me that many of them get CDISC training from their company.

Some countries offer a combined program, usually taught by a 3rd party company to cover training for both portions of the exam. In India, the 3rd party company is Epoch Research and in Europe and the UK the company is OCS Life Sciences. Here are a few web sites to review:

https://www.sas.com/en_in/training/programs/academy-clinical-programming.html (India offering)

https://www.sas.com/en_be/training/programs/academy-clinical-programming.html  (Europe offering)

https://www.sas.com/en_gb/training/programs/academy-clinical-programming.html  (UK offering)

If you interest is more in the area of clinical research, biostatistics or epidemiology, then we have several analytic classes that focus on skills for biostatisticians and epidemiologists. However, there's no certification credential for these classes, even though the skills would be used by clinical researchers and biostatisticians and epidemiologists.

You will be able to review full information about these classes by visiting the Statistical Analysis learning path: http://support.sas.com/training/us/paths/stat.html  and clicking on each course title from that page. The page for each course will show you the full description for the class, as well as the class duration when we teach the class.

--Survival Analysis Using the Proportional Hazards Model

This course discusses survival analysis concepts with an emphasis on health care problems. The course focuses on the Cox proportional hazards model, not the parametric models, and is not designed for predictive modelers.

--Fitting Poisson Regression Models Using the GENMOD Procedure

This course is for those who analyze the number of occurrences of an event or the rate of occurrence of an event as a function of some predictor variables. For example, the rate of insurance claims, colony counts for bacteria or viruses, the number of equipment failures, and the incidence of disease can be modeled using Poisson regression models.

--Fitting Tobit and Other Limited Dependent Variable Models

This course illustrates how to fit Tobit models, truncated models, and sample selection models in the QLIM procedure. Tobit models are censored regression models that are used when the dependent variable has a limited distribution because of censoring. For example, a value of 100 for the dependent variable might mean 100 or less, but we do not know how much less. Tobit models and other limited dependent variable models are used in many fields such as biostatistics, insurance, finance, physical sciences, and econometrics.

--Categorical Data Analysis Using Logistic Regression

This course focuses on analyzing categorical response data in scientific fields. The SAS/STAT procedures addressed are PROC FREQ, PROC LOGISTIC, and PROC GENMOD. The ODS Statistical Graphics procedures used are PROC SGPLOT and PROC SGPANEL. The course is not designed for predictive modelers in business fields, although predictive modelers can benefit from the content of this course.

--Bayesian Analyses Using SAS

The course focuses on Bayesian analyses using the PHREG, GENMOD, and MCMC procedures. The examples include logistic regression, Cox proportional hazards model, general linear mixed model, and the zero-inflated Poisson model. A Bayesian analysis of a crossover design and a meta-analysis are also shown.

--Probability Surveys 1: Design, Descriptive Statistics, and Analysis

This course focuses on designing business and household surveys and analyzing data collected under complex survey designs. The course addresses the SAS procedures POWER, SURVEYSELECT, SURVEYMEANS, SURVEYFREQ, SURVEYREG, and SURVEYLOGISTIC. In addition, the graphing procedures GPLOT, SGPLOT and SGPANEL are also covered.

Hope this helps you decide what kind of SAS classes to pursue.

Cynthia
