Hi everyone,

when I open a dataset with fsview in the command bar:

I would like to know, if I can use column description and column labels

as I can use in the viewtable.

Cheers,

J.

why not?

Usind the viewtable procedure:

When i open a datset with vt work.new

I got by default: columlabels, and it can be change to colum names typing colname in the command bar.

Please, could you write down the right syntax to change from column names to  column labels in my dataset using fsview?

You apparently didn't notice the comment in the link that I sent: " The FSVIEW procedure does not display variable labels"

Thanks,

what about colum descirptions?...how I am able to know with fsview the format, informat the every variable as I am able to know using Viewtable?

Thanks in advance.

I just found this link  Smiley Happy Thanks btw.

What about the second question...column descriptions?

Actually, I may have misunderstood the first question and the comment in the documentation.  I'm not extremely familiar with it but, for column labels, it does have a rename command.  As such, I don't see why you couldn't rename a variable to its label.  However, I've never done it, but it sure looks like it should be possible.

As for file labels, honestly, I don't know.

Thanks art297,

in thre days of exploring it, viewtable and fsview:

It looks like that you can get everything using both procedures, not only one.

For example: column description (format/informat) of variables and switch between column labels/column names only is posssible with viewtable.

and : point out the number of observation you are interested of, for example selected the record 3456, in a dataset of 60000 observations,

is only possible with fsview.

Anyway, thanks for your help.

I got all the necesssary information that I need to know.

to be honest, i am going to use fsview, looks like  more powerful and flexible.
