Hi all,

Not a newbie, just can't find my code that converts a sas dataset into a format via Proc Format.

Anyone have the straightforward code readily available?

Thanks so much!

You need to create your start, end, label, fmtname and type variables correctly as per the documentation and then use PROC FORMAT with CNTLIN.
The example in the documentation seems well explained, is there some portion that needs more detail?

data fmt_cntlin;
set have (
  keep=<source> <target>
  rename=(<source>=start <target>=label)
) end=done;
fmtname = "myfmt";
type = "C"; /* N for numeric */
output;
if done
then do;
  hlo = "O";
  /* add code for "other" values */
  output;
end;
run;

proc format cntlin=fmt_cntlin;
run;
