Hi -- does anyone know of a relatively inexpensive or free way to get some sample exercises to learn new SAS concepts? In particular, I'd like to practice my understanding concerning "modify" and "update" statements. Creating dummy exercises isn't working out too well for me.

The SAS support http://support.sas.com/ website has technical DOC and supplemental reference materials - here is a Google advanced search argument for you to consider:

THank you Scott! I will check some hits. Incidentally, do you find enhancing one's SAS is best done using live, real projects? I can look at sample data all I want, but until I am "forced" to code something on my own, I don't know if I've really mastered the material.

Such is life --

Yes, no question - real-life data scenarios and associated analysis challenges help with developing your own solutions rather than attempting to learn from others' experience. It must be a balance between using information resources, DOC, code samples, SAS discussion forum archives, and the like, to build up your own SAS programming arsenal.
