Hello All,

There are vast tables in SASHELP Library within SAS EG. Does anyone know - Are there any tutorials that help (newbies) to work/use the data/programs using SASHELP Library.

FYI, I know under help we have something called "Getting Started" for query builder related tools.. I am looking more towards basic programming.

Any advise?

Thanks

R

Most of the stuff in SASHELP are either example data sets used in the sample programs accesible through the online help sample programs in "Learning ot use SAS" in the online help or (mostly views) used by the program to keep track of contents of librarys, datasets and some options. Other bits provide the menues windows used by different parts.

Look in the online help for the sample programs and use of DICTIONARY tables for most of these.

Hello Ballardw,

I searched for the above under SAS help in SAS EG application could not find.

I searched for it on sas.com and was not successful. I got to the following point on sas.com but i hope this is not you were indicating.

http://support.sas.com/kb/?ct=51000

Can you please let me know where exactly i can find the sample programs that use dictionary tables?

I appreciate your guidance.

Thanks

The way you phrased your initial question SASHELP, refers to a liberary of data sets, data views and catalogs used by the system.

Some of the views in the SASHELP liberary are the contents of the DICTIONARY table. Using the dictionary tables is just like using any other read-only dataset. I would recomend starting SAS, NOT Enterprise guide as I found the online help in EG is extremely abbreviated. Then go the online help and look up DICTIONARY in the index of help. You can find descriptions of contents of the dictionary tables and a couple of program examples.
