Issue with using Proc Format on a character variable - University Edition

Hi! I am trying to apply the format procedure to the data below so that Exposure A will be “Anemic” and Exposure B “Not Anemic”. Similarly, for Gender; 1 for “Male” and 2 for “Female”. The code is working correctly for male/female, but isn't for exposure and I'm not sure why. Any help is much appreciated! 

This is my code: 

data Anemia;
input Exposure $ Gender $ count;
datalines;
A 1 205
A 2 129
B 1 89
B 2 86

proc format;
value $exposurefmt 
'A'='Anemic' 
'B'= 'Not Anemic';
value $genderfmt 
1 = 'male'
