Hello all;

 

Can anyone tell me how to read a txt file with multiple column names combined in different record with data step?

the raw txt filelook like this:

 

var1 var2 var3 var4 var5

1 2 3 4 5

6 7 8 9 0

var1 var2 var3 var4 var5

11 12 13 14 15

16 17 18 19 10

var1 var2 var3 var4 var5

21 22 23 24 25

26 27 28 29 30

 

data need;

infile 'c:\rawdata.txt';

input var1 var2 var3 var4 var5;

run;

Check the line before reading it so that you can eliminate the extra header rows.  You will need some way to tell which are the header rows to eliminate.  In your example they all start with the string 'var1'.

data need;
  infile 'c:\rawdata.txt';
  input @;
  if _infile_=: 'var1' then delete;
  input var1 var2 var3 var4 var5;
run;
