I am importing a text file into a SAS dataset which will then be loaded into a Teradata table. The issue I am having is with one of the fields in the text file. Below is a sample of the data from that field. My question is what would be the best format for reading in this data? I tried best32. but that didn't work.

field3

3185367700.7657785

4.3712247081415856E-2

-4.449917808054182E-3

Thanks in advance for your help!

read it as character?

You can only store about 16 digits using the IEEE format for 8 byte floating point numbers that SAS uses for numbers.

I don't know about Teradata, but don't use SAS if you need more than IEEE floating point precision (about 15 digits). Then why would you need that much precision?
